Practical Solutions and Experience for San Carlos
Neil Layton for San Carlos City Council 2024
Over the past decade, San Carlos has embarked upon transformative change. From unprecedented demand for Life Science space and affordable housing to the reimagining of our downtown, San Carlos has established itself as one of the major cities on the peninsula in which to work, live, and raise a family. The City Council needs experienced leaders who can solve the issues and seize the opportunities that come with so much change. As a County Prosecutor, tenured San Carlos School Board Trustee, and longtime community volunteer, I have the experience to hit the ground running on the San Carlos CIty Council.
I hope you’ll join my campaign!
My Priorities for San Carlos:
Public Safety:
As a seasoned County Prosecutor, I will make public safety a priority, working to ensure our first-responders are well-funded and that we invest in state-of-the-art technologies for policing and disaster preparedness. As a former member of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League Board, I know that public safety includes strong relationships between our public safety agencies, our schools, and our community.
Traffic & Infrastructure:
Our city, state, and region face aging infrastructure systems which have not kept pace with growth. This includes sewers, power lines, roads and sidewalks. I will advocate for cost-effective and timely solutions to address flooding, fire, and other day to day safety issues.
Housing:
San Carlos and our surrounding region faces a shortage of diverse housing supply, particularly for our local workforce, teachers, hospitality workers and first-responders. This impacts our families, seniors and single-parent households. I’ll work toward creative solutions for a variety of housing opportunities. I’ll also work on behalf of homeowners to ensure that the City provides efficient timelines and processes for home improvements and home building.
My Priorities for San Carlos:
Quality Parks & Open Space:
As a youth sports coach and former San Carlos Parks and Recreation Commissioner, I know firsthand the importance of quality parks and sports facilities paired with safe bike and pedestrian connectivity. These efforts are imperative to our quality of life now and in the decades to come.
A Healthy, Vibrant Economy:
We are fortunate that San Carlos is a popular local destination. The San Carlos downtown plan and the longer term San Carlos Northeast area specific plan must support a vibrant mix of retail, housing, restaurant, office, and public space that fully supports walkability, bikes, sustainable rent prices, and public accessibility. I will work proactively to provide real support to the business community, preventing unneeded bureaucracy and advocating for a variety of business as our city’s commercial centers evolve.
